This story is told from the perspective of a grandmother whose main source of socializing is in playing weekly poker games with her friends in person. She has had to adapt during these uncertain times.

I am home all the time now. Before, I kept busy by playing weekly games of poker with a few different friend groups. Because of the switch, we had to figure out different ways to keep in touch and still play the poker games.

We brainstormed and tried a few techniques, and eventually, we found the one that worked best for us. We have used the virtual platform to our advantage. Each game, there is one dealer. The dealer takes a photo of each person’s cards and sends it to each player respectively over Whatsapp. Then, we play the game as usual just through our video call. It has been working pretty smoothly and we are all having a great time. Now, I play four poker games a week with my friends all online.

Although these aren’t the most ideal conditions to be socializing with my friends in, we make it work.
